Privacy

How Foster South East London manages and uses the personal data you give us.

Foster North London is the fostering recruitment website for the Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Islington, Hackney, Haringey Councils. It is run by the London Innovation and Improvement Alliance (LIIA) on behalf of London's regional fostering hubs.

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website, why we collect it and what happens to it afterwards. It covers this website only, so if you follow a link to another site you should read that site's own privacy notice.

Who is responsible for your information

London Councils is the data controller for information collected through this website and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. When you make an enquiry, your details are passed to the council for the area where you live, which becomes responsible for them from that point as part of its fostering service.

You can contact our Data Protection Officer at dataprotection@londoncouncils.gov.uk.

What we collect

When you make an enquiry we ask for:

  • your first and last name

  • your phone number and email address

  • your postcode

  • how far along you are in thinking about fostering

  • whether you would like to hear more from us

When you submit the form we also record which fostering hub your enquiry belongs to and the website or campaign that brought you here, so that we can see which of our campaigns lead people to get in touch.

We don't ask about your health, ethnicity or other sensitive matters through this website. If you share something like this later in your conversations with a fostering team, the council will handle it under its own privacy notice.

Why we use it

We use your enquiry details to put you in touch with the fostering team for your area and to arrange a first conversation about fostering. Our legal basis for this is consent, as you must agree to be contacted when submitting a form on the website.

We also combine enquiry information into reports that do not identify you, so that LIIA and each hub can see how many people enquire and where people leave the process, which helps us improve the website and our campaigns.

Who we share it with

Your enquiry goes to the fostering team for the council area where you live, based on your postcode rather than where you work.

In North London, your enquiry is passed to Now Foster, the system the hub uses to manage enquiries and book introductory chats. This includes your form details and information about the campaign that brought you to the site.

We use Cloudflare to protect the enquiry form from automated spam, which involves processing technical information such as your IP address.

We don't sell your information or pass it to anyone for their own marketing.

Where it is stored

Your information is held on secure servers in the UK.
