Welcome to Foster South East London

Six south east London councils now recruit foster carers together through the Foster South East London hub, which launched on 1 October 2026.

Foster South East London is the new home for fostering recruitment in south east London, so if you live in any of our six boroughs and have wondered whether fostering could work for you, this is where you start. Find out what fostering involves.

The six councils behind the hub

The councils that make up Foster South East London which have worked together on fostering since 2012 through the South East London Fostering and Permanency Consortium, sharing training and recruitment activity long before the hub existed. This is the next step in finding safe and secure foster homes for South East London's children. Our six councils are the London boroughs of:

What Foster South East London does

When there is no foster home nearby, a child can end up moving away from their school and their friends at the moment they most need something familiar, which is why the hub's main job is to find more carers in South East London living close to the children who could stay with them. Bringing the six councils together also means one offer and one way to get in touch, so you get the same experience wherever you live in south east London. See what we offer foster carers.

If you already foster with an independent agency, you can move to a council and keep caring for children close to home, and we can talk you through how a transfer works. Find out about transferring to a council.

Part of a national push for more foster carers

Foster South East London is one of many fostering hubs opening across England this autumn under the government's national fostering programme. The national campaign behind it starts from the idea that fostering is built from everyday life, and that the ordinary things you already do can help a child feel safe and settled. You already have what it takes. Just share it.

The government is also extending its Room Makers programme to every hub, which provides funding to help foster carers adapt their homes so they have space to care for another child.

More people can foster than most people realise, including single people, renters and people who work full time, and the quickest way to see where you stand is to check for yourself. Discover whether you could foster.
